Weather Policy & Storm Closure Guidelines

Policy Purpose

To ensure student/staff safety during extreme weather, aligning with Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) warnings and Education Bureau (EDB) regulations.

School Closure Protocol

Typhoon Signal 8 or Above

  • School closes immediately
  • All classes / activities canceled

Parents alerted via SMS, email, and WeChat within 30 minutes of HKO announcement

Black Rainstorm Warning

  • School closes if issued before 6:00AM.
  • If issued during school hours: Students remain safely indoors until pickup

Updates posted on school website and ManageBac parent portal

Amber / Red Rainstorm

  • School remains opened
  • Outdoor activities canceled

Teachers supervise indoor alternatives (e.g., library study)

Thunderstorm Warning

  • Outdoor sports / activities paused until warning lifts

PE teachers relocate to gym/classrooms

Key Procedures

 

  • Early Dismissal: If HKO issues Typhoon Signal 8/Black Rain
  • During school hours: Students stay indoors under teacher supervision. Parents/designated adults must sign out students at reception.
  • Make-Up Classes: Canceled sessions will be rescheduled as online lessons.
  • Staff: Non-teaching staff may work remotely if safe travel is impossible.

 

Parent Responsibilities

  • Ensure emergency contact details are updated in ManageBac
  • Monitor HKO alerts via https://www.hko.gov.hk
  • Arrange timely pickup during sudden closures
